A bit of 'me' time

So the past couple of days, I have spent most of my free time fanning myself from this crazy heat, reading blogs & magazines, eating lollies and watching the latest episodes of Gossip Girl. I managed to emerge from my abode and buy some much needed groceries. They say it will be 41° on Wednesday, so I stocked up on ice-blocks and watermelon to cool us down over the next few days. Then I gave my local Salvo’s a visit.

Maybe I will turn this one into a necklace?

Maybe I will turn this one into a necklace?

I found this sweet lady. She looked like she needed my company. I was instantly relieved of my urge to buy something. I took her home. I really like the colour. It is very pretty.  I might make her into a necklace.

I noticed a Kamahl’s Greatest Hits Record. I always see them in op-shops. Poor Kamahl.  I remember when I was a child my family would buy my grandmother the latest Kamahl cassette for Christmas.  Then we were tortured with The Elephant Song throughout Christmas dinner. Seriously the worst idea ever! But she loved it.

Do you remember The Elephant Song?

Babar would be proud.

Have a blessed week!

Love and Butterfly Kisses,

Sushi and Green Earrings

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Today I met my hubby in the city for some sushi.

and.. on the way I visited a couple of op-shops, in Brighton and Glenelg.

I found these very glam green earrings. Green is a favourite colour of mine. I also grabbed some buttons, that I am planning to make some earrings out of.

And last but not least, this pretty home made skirt that i found on a costume rack. It will look great belted with a white singlet, pale denim vest and some nude sandals for a fabulous picnic in the park.

Perfect for a picnic

I also found a pair of Espirit shorts, a Sportsgirl top and a couple of Babysitters Club books for April.

Toodles!

Hello Sailor: Port Adelaide

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Today, I did a little sight seeing. I went for a drive to Port Adelaide and had a walk around the cute cobbled streets, many historic pubs and old shops. I love Port Adelaide. It is truly a gem. But unfortunately it is looking a bit.. well deserted. Many shops along the main street have closed down, the people were nowhere to be seen and even the seagulls had vanished. The old bright red lighthouse, and fishermans wharf markets are the main attractions pulling alot of tourists on a sunday morning, apart from that there isn’t much else happening. Which is a shame because it has so much potential. I really hope one day this place gets the love it deserves.

On the way home, I stopped into a few thrift shops. I scored this super sweet purse for one dollar!

I would fight old ladies for this baby!

And these earrings.

Earrings that would make your nanna jealous!

When was the last time you wrote someone a letter?

Saturday, October 24th, 2009
Write on me!

Write on me!

I thrifted this gorgeous note/ card paper yesterday, it got me thinking about the last time I wrote someone a letter. I think I was about twelve years old, about the same time the internet found its way into my home. Although I love the convenience of writing a quick email or sending a message on my phone, I really miss writing and receiving letters. I would spend hours drafting up my letter to send to a friend, or relative and adorn my final copy with scribbled love hearts and Hello Kitty stickers.

I especially loved the handwriting, each writer’s penmanship so unique and special.

Each letter would be kept in a special box stored away under my bed, permanent and kept for many more years to come. Receiving a letter was exciting, it was huge! Just knowing someone had invested all their time drafting, writing and posting the letter made me feel special and loved. Someone cared so much to send me a letter.

Now, we email, we Facebook and twitter each other. Every word quickly typed down, without thought and conviction. For this reason I deleted my personal Facebook. Every time I logged on, I felt a sense of dishonesty and insincerity. All my communication had been done via this amazing medium. But it just didn’t feel right.

So, I sent all my friends a goodbye message, with my phone number and address – and urged them to actually contact me ‘old school’. I since have received and made a few phone calls, and spent a good hour talking on the phone, laughing and reminiscing about old times. It felt so good. I felt the person on the other end.

The next step is to pick up a pen.
